Strike Threat Averted, Senate Votes to Implement Tentative Agreements

Date
Dec 1, 2022

Dear BNSF Customers,

I am pleased to inform you that in a bipartisan vote, the Senate has approved legislation to avert a rail strike and implement the tentative agreements based on the framework of President Biden’s Presidential Emergency Board (PEB) recommendation from earlier this year. Eight of the 12 rail unions had already ratified the same tentative agreement, which includes historic wage increases, best-in-class healthcare and performance bonuses. President Biden will now sign the bill into law.

Many of you have written or called your Congressional delegations to express concerns over the possibility of a strike or other job action. We believe your active participation made a significant difference. Your letters helped Congress clearly recognize the impact a rail service disruption would have on your business and the U.S. economy, leading to their willingness to intervene. I appreciate your support of these efforts.

Thank you for again supporting our efforts to keep America’s freight moving. We look forward to providing you with uninterrupted service as we move through the busy holiday season.

Sincerely,

Steve Bobb
