Agricultural Products Network Update for Friday, October 13, 2023

OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
BNSF operating teams are focused on aligning resources as effectively as possible to support the sharp increase in grain and intermodal traffic flows in recent weeks. Domestic intermodal volumes have increased and after a slow start due to weather, fall harvest is upon us. We expect to reach our peak number of shuttle sets next week, where we anticipate it will stay for the remainder of the year to support the harvest.

While we experienced some early-season winter weather in the North earlier this week, overall service performance remained relatively steady and consistent with the levels reported during the past several weeks. Car velocity experienced a slight decline from the previous week and the average level for September. Average terminal dwell increased from the last week, while our local service compliance measure, which measures our effectiveness in the handling of carload freight, is unchanged from the previous month and remains above 92%.

SERVICE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD
High wind watches and warnings remain in effect for several areas of the BNSF network across the Central Plains as a weather system moves across the area. The same system is expected to bring heavy rain to the Midwest throughout the weekend. BNSF operations teams are monitoring the region and are prepared to respond to any service disruptions.

Most other areas of the BNSF network will have favorable operating conditions heading into the week.
